A suspension spring cracks so subtly that most owners assume the clock simply 'lost interest'. All three are fully repairable, and all three should be handled before the damage reaches the movement.

How do I know a mainspring is broken?
The key spins freely, or you hear a sharp bang followed by silence. Do not keep winding after that.
Is a broken cable dangerous?
A falling weight can crack the case and injure the movement, so a fraying cable should be replaced immediately.
Can you replace just one spring?
We can, though on a chiming clock we usually recommend replacing all springs of the same age together.
